A planning committee of Congregation Agudas Achim's Men's Club has set the group's program calendar for the first four months of 2012:
* Sunday, January 29: World Wide Wrap - Teach Tefillin skills to fathers and sons
* Sunday, February 26: Go to our Palmetto Cemetery for a general clean-up and tree trimming,
followed by a hearty lunch
* Sunday, March 4: Assemble Yellow Shoah Candles and have a Holocaust education program
* Saturday, March 24: After Shabbat - A jazz band program and a wine/scotch/vodka tasting
(wives invited)
* Friday, April 27: Fiesta Battle of Flowers parade
* Saturday, April 28: Fiesta Flambeau parade
Programs for the rest of the year will be announced later. "We're going to try to have at least one program every month - some months more," said Mike Kelne, Men's Club president. "We recognize that the same program won't appeal to everyone, so we'll have a variety - social, educational, community service and synagogue assistance - that we hope will attract more people in total."
All men of Congregation Agudas Achim are invited to attend the sports program January 19, and are urged to RSVP to Amy in the synagogue office at 479-0307, by January 16. Directions to Robi's home will be provided.

Do you know how to put on Tefillin? Does your son or grandson?
Agudas Achim's Men's Club will again sponsor a "Tefillin Skills" learning session on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. A "how to" video will run continuously and there will be plenty of men available to walk you through the process, step by step. Rabbi Bitran and Hazzan Litpon will also be on hand to explain the history of Tefillin and offer insights into the process.
"There's no great mystery to learning how to put on Tefillin," said Men's Club President, Mike Kelne. "But if you never learned or haven't done it in 50 years, it can appear quite puzzling. In reality though, it's pretty simple; if you can count to seven, you're more than halfway there. And learning how to with both a bunch of other novices and several experienced hands is actually fun.
"Bring your own Tefillin or borrow a set. Then just roll up your sleeve and jump in. New Tefillin can also be purchased in the Goldsmith-Levis Gift Shop."
