Heintz Preschool has the following policies:
Heintz Preschool is a program of Congregation Agudas Achim, a Conservative synagogue. As such, it is imperative that all aspects of KASHRUT (KOSHER LAWS) be observed. All foods brought into the facility for snacks and/or lunches must be DAIRY or VEGETARIAN. All “store-bought” products must have a HECHSHER (‘O’, ‘U’, OR ‘K’). Nothing may be brought into the facility for group sharing that is “home-made.” (e.g.: brownies, cupcakes….etc.) Specialty foods may be purchased at HEB. Check with the Synagogue office for other approved stores.
Heintz Preschool will be preparing Kosher, nutritional snacks three days a week. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Heintz Preschool will have veggie and fruit days. Each family will be assigned a veggie or fruit day to bring snack. Snack schedules will be posted.

Please check with the Heintz Preschool office to arrange a special snack for your child’s birthday.

An atmosphere of cooperation is encouraged throughout the Heintz Preschool. Positive motivation and redirection are our foremost effective methods of discipline. On occasion, it also involves quiet talks, out of hearing distance from other children, and may be followed by a brief “time away.” Time away is used sparingly, and NEVER for more than 1 minute per each year of age.

In the school environment, problems or conflicts among parents, students, teachers or administrators may arise. If the Director cannot reasonably solve such a problem, the Director has the authority to involuntarily remove a student from the program.

After lunch, children are encouraged to rest for at least one hour. INDIVIDUAL NAP MATS may be purchased from HEINTZ PRESCHOOL or brought from home. A restful atmosphere is created by playing soft music and dimming the lights. Your child may also bring one stuffed animal or other ‘cuddly’ from home. Rest needs of children vary. Children who do not sleep and those who awaken early are permitted to participate in supervised quiet play until group activities resume.

An individual cubby is provided for each child’s personal belongings. Your child should have a complete change of clothing at all times. Please label all clothing with your child’s FIRST & LAST NAMES. Other than a stuffed animal to cuddle at nap time, no other personal belongings should be brought to Heintz Preschool. We cannot be responsible for misplaced items.

Our facility is equipped with an approved fire alarm system, an overhead sprinkler system and strategically located fire extinguishers. Evacuation exercises are routinely conducted. Children soon become accustomed to this mandatory safety precaution. Information regarding procedures during severe weather, fire and other emergencies is posted throughout the center. Parents will be notified by phone as to the location of their children in case of an emergency that would force us to leave HEINTZ PRESCHOOL.

We will follow the schedule for Northeast Independent School District during severe weather. Please tune to radio station KTSA 550 AM for details regarding closings.

Childhood illnesses are a part of growing up. We work diligently to prevent the spread of germs in our facility. Our obligation to all parents is to take every precaution against the spread of communicable illnesses. We ask that you as parents be considerate of the other children at Heintz Preschool. If your child has a temperature over 100 degrees, diarrhea, vomiting, constant cough or wheezing, recurring abdominal pain, sore throat, or if he/she is not feeling well enough to participate in activities, we ask that you care for your child at home until he/she is well. If your child becomes ill while in our care, we will contact you or your alternate immediately. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up promptly.

Please notify the Center immediately if your child develops a communicable disease. Heintz Preschool will promptly notify parents and the proper authorities in the event of a communicable disease.

The safety of your child is our foremost concern. Our staff is trained in CPR and First Aid. If your child receives a scratch or minor injury, First Aid will be provided immediately by a trained Caregiver and you will be informed of the incident.

In the unlikely event of a more involved accident, every effort will be made to contact you or the alternate person listed on your child’s Enrollment Record form. An attempt will be made to contact your child’s physician for instructions. Failure to make contact in a reasonable amount of time we will initiate action to provide accredited medical treatment, while efforts to contact you will continue. Emergency transportation will be provided by activating the San Antonio ‘911’ Emergency System.

We will gladly assist you by administering prescribed medication for your child as you direct. The original medicine container must be labeled with pharmacy/doctor’s instructions. You will be required to complete a Medicine Authorization Form for each medication that is to be administered. Medicine Authorization Forms are valid for one week only and will need to be filled out each week as medication continues. Medicine Authorization Forms are in the Heintz Preschool Office.

Completed Enrollment Record forms are required before attending Heintz Preschool. Our Director will assist you in completing enrollment documents for your child. Evidence of age-appropriate immunizations are required on the child’s first day of attendance. Parents are required to update information on file whenever changes occur. Parents must escort children to and from the Heintz Preschool at all times. Parents will notify Heintz Preschool of any changes in personal or emergency information. Please cooperate with these rules as they are in the best interest of your child.

There are limited spaces in Heintz Preschool. Priority in enrollment will be given in the following order: First, to currently enrolled students and their siblings. Second, to members of Congregation Agudas Achim. Third, enrollment will be open to the community. Enrollment and class placement of children is at the discretion of the Director.

Tuition is calculated on a yearly basis. You will receive a monthly statement from our Accounting Office. Our Accountant will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have. By completing the Application for Enrollment, you agree to timely pay all tuition fees.

Discounts are not given for absences or for early pick-up. Tuition is subject to change. Late fees for picking up your child will be billed to your account at the rate of $1 per minute. If you arrive after 2 PM, you will receive a late fee ticket with the amount that will be billed to your account.

We do have a “Bonus Day” program. A child can attend a “Bonus Day” for $25 if a space is available on the day the child wishes to attend. If a child is not present by 9:30AM, your child’s space may be filled by a “Bonus Day.” Please contact the school at: 479-0429 if your child is going to be late or absent.

Parents must authorize the release of a child to a designated adult. Parents agree that dismissal of any child to any adult, including parents, is at the discretion of the Director.
